A US-style unique device identification (UDI) coding system for medical devices will be introduced in the Netherlands next year.
Under a voluntary agreement between regulators, healthcare providers and device distributors and manufacturers, from July 1, 2018, implantable devices will carry UDI codes, making it easier to identify and trace those. The Netherlands is the first European Union member state to agree to this type of system.
In September 2018, the working group will meet again to add to the list of devices requiring UDI codes. Contact us
